The Apex Peer Ambassador Program is a free, welcoming opportunity for children and teens ages 5–17 to enjoy activities, meet new peers, and share their interests and perspectives. Your child does not need prior experience with autism, ADHD, or neurodiversity. All they should want is to take part and feel comfortable being themselves.

Sibling Participation

Siblings are welcome to express interest. Each child is considered individually based on age, readiness, interests, and group fit. When appropriate, siblings may be considered for the same group. Siblings participate as peers and are never expected to help, supervise, or care for another child. For Apex families, shared activities may also create opportunities for a child to practice relevant skills beyond the clinic when clinically appropriate.

What your child can look forward to

Planned activities include board games, gross-motor games, obstacle courses, sensory games, and sensory activities. The final activity list and equipment will depend on availability, age suitability, and safety review.

Sessions are planned for one hour. A parent or guardian may request a two-hour session, and a session will not exceed three hours. Apex will confirm scheduling and program details before participation.

A peer, with professional support

Peer Ambassadors come to play and connect. They are not asked to teach therapeutic skills, provide therapy, supervise an Apex client, manage behavior, or act as a caregiver. Apex professionals are responsible for clinical support and program oversight. Each participating Apex therapy client must have a dedicated RBT throughout peer interaction, with BCBA oversight.

Parents and guardians do not remain during sessions. For an Apex client to take part in an activity with Peer Ambassadors, the parent or guardian must provide written consent. To protect privacy, staff use initials or an approved alias in group settings and do not share a client’s protected health information with Peer Ambassadors or discuss it aloud during activities. Before placement, Apex will explain the approved check-in, pick-up, contact, and emergency procedures and provide the required parent documents.

How the process will work

1. A parent or guardian expresses interest when registration opens.

2. The Apex team discusses your child’s age, interests, and what will help them feel comfortable. Please do not send diagnoses or medical details through ordinary email or a website form.

3. The family reviews and completes the approved participation documents.

4. Your child attends an age-appropriate orientation.

5. Apex confirms a suitable session once staffing, safety arrangements, and scheduling are in place.

An interest inquiry will not guarantee enrollment, placement, or a particular schedule.

A separate path for teen volunteers

Apex is exploring a separate, structured volunteer pathway for older teens interested in school or community service, including a mitzvah project associated with a bar or bat mitzvah. We are also exploring outreach through local schools, synagogues, and community organizations. Volunteer roles, age eligibility, boundaries, training, supervision, screening, and hour documentation are still under review. Placement and volunteer-hour credit are not guaranteed; teens should confirm with their school or sponsoring organization that an approved activity meets its requirements. This pathway is separate from peer play. Before an Apex client participates in an activity with teen volunteers, the client’s parent or guardian must provide written consent.
