The Playdate They’ll Look Forward To

Come Play. Make Friends. Discover New Perspectives.

Different Perspectives. Shared Experiences. Real Connections.

The Apex Peer Ambassador Program is a free opportunity for children and teens ages 5 and older to enjoy activities, meet peers, and discover different interests and ways of communicating. Children come to play, be themselves, and share an experience together.

Choose your kind of fun

Planned activity ideas include board games, gross-motor games, obstacle courses, sensory games, and sensory activities. Activities and equipment offered will depend on age suitability, availability, and safety review.

Sessions are planned for one hour. A parent or guardian may request a two-hour session; sessions will not exceed three hours. Scheduling and session details will be confirmed by Apex before participation.

Everyone brings something to the friendship

Every child has interests, ideas, and ways of connecting that are worth sharing. A game, a shared interest, or a funny moment can open the door to a real connection. There is no single right way to talk, play, or join in. Children may invite, accept, change, or decline an activity.

Peer Ambassadors are peers

Ambassadors participate as children and teens. They are not therapists, teachers, behavior coaches, babysitters, or caregivers. They are never responsible for another child’s treatment, supervision, or clinical needs. Apex professionals provide the support and oversight for participating children.

Siblings are welcome to express interest. Each child is considered individually based on age, readiness, interests, and group fit. When appropriate, siblings may be considered for the same group and always participate as peers, never as helpers or caregivers. Shared activities may also offer opportunities to practice relevant skills beyond the clinic when clinically appropriate.

For families of Apex clients

When clinically appropriate, peer interaction may be incorporated into an Apex client’s existing individualized therapy. A shared activity may give the child a natural opportunity to practice skills already relevant to their treatment plan. Participation does not replace or change the child’s existing goals. Each participating Apex client must have a dedicated RBT throughout peer interaction, with BCBA oversight. The client’s family must provide written authorization before participation. To protect privacy, staff use initials or an approved alias in group settings and do not share a client’s protected health information with Peer Ambassadors or discuss it aloud during activities.

A welcoming start for every age

Before joining, Peer Ambassadors receive an age-appropriate orientation to the space, activities, and respectful ways to connect. Children can ask an Apex adult for help, take a break, and choose not to join an activity. Parents and guardians do not stay during sessions; Apex will provide approved check-in, pick-up, and emergency procedures before enrollment opens.

We’re preparing the next steps

Teen Community Service Pathway

A separate teen community-service pathway is being explored for adolescents, with possible outreach through local schools, synagogues, and Jewish community organizations. Some teens may be seeking school or community service opportunities, including a mitzvah project connected with a bar or bat mitzvah. Any qualifying duties, training, supervision, screening, and documentation will be defined before enrollment opens. Participation and volunteer-hour credit are not guaranteed; teens should confirm in advance that their school or sponsoring organization accepts the activity. An Apex client’s family must provide prior written consent before the client interacts with a teen volunteer.
